Grammy-Winning Violinist Mark O'Connor and His Appalachia Waltz Trio Perform in Studio

Mark O'Connor is a violinist admired by lovers of classical, jazz, and country music alike. He's won two Grammy Awards, one for his album New Nashville Cats and one for Appalachian Journey, an album h

Tom Fudge: Mark O'Connor has been playing violin pretty much all his life. He was a bit of a boy genius, winning fiddling contests at the age of ten. Over the years he's been influenced and taught by the likes of jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli and Texas-style fiddler Benny Thomasson. For many years, O'Conner was Nashville's top fiddler, until he got tired of it. That's when he moved to San Diego, where he still holds his annual string camp, though O'Connor now lives in New York.

Mark O'Connor joins me now in studio with members of his group called the Appalachia Waltz Trio. The other members of the group are Mike Block on cello and Gillian Gallagher on viola. They're in town for a concert at the Birch North Park Theater.
