A new report offers a detailed look at the effects proposed Medi-Cal cuts would have on the state's economic health. The study comes from the non-profit group Health Access California . KPBS Reporter Kenny Goldberg has more.
The report says the proposed $800 million in healthcare cuts would have significant side effects throughout the state.
The study says the cuts would cause California to lose nearly one-billion dollars in federal matching funds.
Health Access California director Anthony Wright says that's not all.
Anthony Wright: We've determined that in fact those $800 million of healthcare cuts actually turn into about two-point-one billion dollars of lost business activity in California.
Wright says San Diego County would lose 814 jobs and a total of more than 85 million state and federal dollars.
Governor Schwarzenegger says the Medi-Cal cuts will help balance the state's budget.
