U-C-S-D Medical School is entering into a new partnership with Palomar Pomerado Health . Doctors say the arrangement should improve access to clinical trials for patients throughout the region. KPBS Reporter Kenny Goldberg has more.
The partnership will allow UCSD and PPH to collaborate on research trials of new therapies. Some of the diseases being investigated include diabetes, cancer, and arthritis.
Dr. Richard Just is the medical director of the PPH Research Institute. He says under the agreement, a study approved at one facility can also be conducted at the other.
Dr. Richard Just: So it's a way of collaborating so that these clinical trials, which previously go on independently at the two institutions, are now going to be made available to patients at both sites.
Dr. Just hopes the partnership will increase patient involvement in clinical trials.
