One San Diego lawmaker says the city is at a much higher terror risk than others in the U S. Peter Granitz reports from Capitol Hill.
Freshmen Republican Duncan Hunter attended his first meeting as a member of the Armed Services Committee . Today he heard testimony from the WMD Commission. The bipartisan panel said to expect a biological attack somewhere in the world within the next five years. That was too vague for Hunter. He says San Diego is a likely target because of the large military presence.
Hunter: And we have the border. And as Dr. Allison said if you can get drugs into this country you can get weapons of mass destruction in following that same route. And that major route would be across our Southern border with Mexico.
Dr. Allison is report author Graham Allison and a professor at the Kennedy School of Government. Hunter didn't know whether five years was an accurate estimate. The panel was created in response to the 9/11 Commission. It's tasked with reporting updates on terrorism to Congress.
