Don't head to the DMV Friday. It's one of many state agencies that will be closing as furloughs go into effect. Governor Schwarzenegger ordered all 238,000 state workers to take two unpaid days off each month to save money. Most agencies are closing the first and third Fridays. Armando Botello is with the DMV. He says it may mean longer wait times at field offices.
"It will definitely have an impact. Now, how big of an impact, we are really, we don't know. We hope that a lot of those people are going to start using the internet," said Botello.
Botello says they're pushing people to the DMV website. It offers a variety of services, such as license and registration renewal. The Governor's office estimates about 90 percent of state workers will be off the first and third Fridays. Some exceptions include parks, prisons and hospitals. They'll remain open. All will take the pay cuts, however park employees will stagger days off. Prison and hospital employees will bank their furlough days for the future.
