Sinkhole Closes Montezuma Road in College Area

Traffic could be messy near San Diego State University this evening. A sinkhole opened this afternoon in the northbound lanes of College Avenue just south of Interstate 8.

Traffic could be messy near San Diego State University this evening. A sinkhole opened this afternoon in the northbound lanes of College Avenue just south of Interstate 8.

The street is closed beginning at Montezuma Road. A San Diego official says it will take several hours to complete temporary repairs. College Avenue is expected to remain closed through the evening rush hour.

The exact cause of the sinkhole is still under investigation.
