A new study finds most seniors aren't choosing the lowest cost Medicare drug plan available. The report says seniors may be paying hundreds of dollars more a year than they need to. KPBS Reporter Kenny Goldberg has the story.
When it comes to the Medicare drug plan, one size doesn't fit all. Plans vary in terms of their premiums, co-pays, and covered medications.
Gary Passmore is with the Congress of California Seniors . He says one problem is there are more than 50 plans to choose from in California.
"Trying to compare them is almost impossible," Passmore says, "So that it's tough for a senior to figure out which plan works best for the particular medication they need, and their income level, and all the different kinds of costs."
The Medicare.gov website is designed to help seniors compare plans.
Passmore suggests seniors who don't feel comfortable surfing the Internet should ask a family member for assistance.
