From North County to the South Bay, police agencies have announced checkpoints or extra patrols targeting drunk drivers this weekend.
And they are not waiting until New Year’s Eve to begin. Many are starting the stepped up enforcement tonight.
But if you don’t already have a designated driver to help celebrate the holiday, there are some safe alternatives to get home.
The North County Transit District will provide free bus and train service starting at 6 p.m. tomorrow. The service will last until past midnight.
The Auto Club of Southern California will also offer its Tipsy Tow service, which is open to both members and non-members. Call AAA and they will send a tow truck, which will give a ride to the driver and the vehicle up to seven miles free of charge.
