Brush Fire Burns At Camp Pendleton

Crews are trying to put out a fire at Camp Pendleton that has burned at least 40 acres on the base.

The fire erupted at about 2:30 p.m. at a live fire range on the base, according to base officials. The fire has burned at least 40 acres as of 4 p.m.

Channel 10 News viewers in different parts of the North County, especially in the Oceanside area, reported seeing heavy smoke coming from the base.

Base officials said the fire is moving in a northeast direction, but no structures are currently threatened. Officials confirmed the fire is burning in the center of the base.

Cal Fire crews have been called in to help Camp Pendleton firefighters battle the blaze.

Airtankers and helicopters are helping ground crews fight the fire.
