EL CAJON, Calif. (AP) -- Officials in San Diego County say a 42-year-old man fell to the bottom of a 35-foot well where he spent two hours before being pulled out unconscious.
U-T San Diego (http://bit.ly/Yau5LV ) says the man had been working on the 5-foot-wide well when a board that was supporting him snapped and he fell to the bottom. His son called authorities.
Cal Fire spokesman Mike Mohler told the U-T that about 30 firefighters took part in the "very technical" rescue. They had to shore up the well's walls to make sure they did not collapse on the man or the descending rescuers.
Mohler says the man was taken by helicopter from Potrero to a San Diego hospital 40 miles to the northwest. His condition was unclear and his name was not released.
