Gyro Copter With Single Occupant Lands On Capitol Grounds

A gyro copter with a single occupant landed on the grounds of the Capitol, prompting a security lock down, the U.S. Capitol Police said.

Capitol Police spokeswoman Lt. Kimberly Schneider said one person has been detained.

The lock down has since been lifted, but Schneider said streets in the immediate area were temporarily closed.

The identity of the person in the gyro copter is unknown, but the Tampa Bay Times is reporting that a mailman named Doug Hughes, 61, had announced his intention to fly to the Capitol to demand campaign finance reform.
