Cal Fire is working to extinguish a brush fire that broke out Friday morning in Ramona that was moving at a moderate-to-fast pace, according to officials.
During a press conference, Cal Fire officials said that they expect to have the fire under control shortly.
"We continue to make significant progress, our bulldozers are working feverishly to put a line around the fire. We're feeling cautiously optimistic that the fire will be stopped here shortly," said Cal Fire Deputy Chief Nick Schuler. "We were lucky today but part of that luck is because we were prepared."
In a tweet Friday afternoon, Cal Fire officials said 170 people had been evacuated. And, the forward rate of speed for the fire had ceased.
Schuler also said that the cause of the fire is unknown but that an investigation is ongoing.
