The San Diego Italian Film Festival just completed its third festival a month ago and the organizers are already right back to screening more Italian films for us. "Il Pranzo di Ferragosto" ("Mid-August Lunch") will screen on one night only at the Museum of Photographic Arts in Balboa Park on Thursday December 10.
You can always count on the San Diego Italian Film Festival for good food, film, and conversation. So it's approrpriate that the film to kick off the next mini-series of films is "Il Pranzo di Ferragosto." The story takes place in Rome during the 14th and the 15th of August -- the eve and the holiday of Ferragosto when Italians enjoy being out of town with their loved ones, friends or family. But for Gianni (Gianni Di Gregorio) -- a broke fortysomething still living with his mother -- the holiday will be one spent at home with a quartet of elderly ladies. The interplay is lively as the ladies enjoy Gianni's company and he keeps them entertained.
"Il Pranzo di Ferragosto" (in Italian with English subtitles) screens at 7:00pm Thursday December 10th at the Museum of Photographic Arts in Balboa Park. Suggested donation is just $5.
