Well there's nothing new under the Hollywood sun these days. So prepare for remakes, revamps, and reboots in 2011. Here's a first look at the new actor in the Spidey reboot.
Andrew Garfield had a stellar year as an actor in 2010 delivering a knockout performance in "Red Riding," subtle work in "Never Let Me Go," and contributing to a fine ensemble in "The Social Network." Now he dons the spandex to take over the role of Spider-Man in the reboot of the successful Marvel franchise. Why it needs a reboot? Well no real reason except everyone wants to cash in on Spidey's popularity. This is the first look the studio has given of Garfield as the web-slinging superhero. He's got the acting chops to pull it off and the charm. But whether he can convince us he's the new Spider-Man and Peter Parker will all depend on the script and director (at the moment the director is slated to be "(500) Days of Summer's" Marc Webb). Sam Raimi was the perfect guy to bring the comic book hero to life back in 2002. We'll have to wait and see what this latest incarnation will be like. On first glance it looks like not much change to the image although Garfield's not looking very buff in this shot. But at least he's not going for the CGI abs of Ryan Reynolds in "Green Lantern." I will remain cautiously optimistic about this new Spidey.
