A San Diego coalition was awarded a $4 million grant by the California Department of Labor today for workforce training programs in the biofuels industry.
The San Diego Biofuels Initiative is a collaboration that includes CleanTECH San Diego, BIOCOM, San Diego Regional EDC, San Diego Center for Algae Biotechnology and the San Diego Workforce Partnership.
The money will fund an Education and Developing Workers for the Green Economy, or EDGE, initiative to provide training and placement services to unemployed and dislocated workers in San Diego and the Imperial Valley in the field of biofuels, according to BIOCOM.
It was one of five programs awarded a total of $20 million in grants through a state contingency fund and the Federal Workforce Investment Act, according to BIOCOM.
