Labor Day is over and the two groups pushing to redevelop the Mission Valley stadium site are stepping up their political campaigns.
SoccerCity backers spent the morning rallying support for Measure E on the November Ballot.
FS Investors is the group behind SoccerCity and they hope to convince voters to back their plan to build housing, commercial space, a river park and a sports Stadium to lure a Major League Soccer Franchise to San Diego.
American soccer star Landon Donovan was among those working at the Office near Montgomery Field.
There are just over 60 days until election day.
“We’ve got, sort of postcards going out. Average San Diegans. Each and every member of the community will ultimately get some version of the postcard saying, 'Please vote for Measure E,'” said Nick Stone, FS Investors.
“Because we don’t believe we should be using taxpayer dollars for sports. And we want a park. And we want to figure out a way for something that’s great for the university which we will do,” Stone said.
SoccerCity hopes to build housing, commercial space, a river park and a stadium to lure a Major League Soccer franchise to San Diego.
SDSU West wants to buy land to build an auxiliary campus featuring a stadium for the Aztecs, housing, commercial space and a river park.
“Measure G, the SDSU West initiative, is in full campaign mode with positive momentum toward Election Day,” said spokeswoman Katy Temple in a statement released Monday.
“Backed by widespread and diverse support, our campaign is working tirelessly to reach every voter to Vote Yes on Measure G. It is the only initiative that creates the opportunity grow San Diego State University through an open and transparent process that will benefit our regional economy for generations to come,” Temple said.
Measure G and E are both on the November ballot. The initiative that wins the most votes over 50 percent prevails.
It is possible that both measures could fall short.
