School Board To Swear In New Member On Monday

The San Diego Unified School District will swear in its new and re-elected trustees at a special meeting scheduled for Monday.

Former community college teacher and administrator Marne Foster won a seat on the Board of Education in the Nov. 6 general election. She will replace Shelia Jackson.

Board President John Lee Evans and member Richard Barrera were returned to office for second terms.

Evans had to fight off a strong challenge from university instructor Mark Powell, who collected the most votes in the primary election to force a November runoff. Barrera was unopposed.

After Foster takes her seat, the trustees are scheduled to choose a new president and vice president.

A reception is scheduled following the meeting. A regular board meeting is set for Tuesday.
