San Diego State men's baseball team captured its third consecutive Mountain West Tournament Championship Sunday and will face UC Santa Barbara Friday in its regional match.

The San Diego State men's baseball team won the Mountain West Tournament Championship on Sunday for the third consecutive year.

Down 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Aztecs team rallied for a pair of runs to put them up 5-4 in an ultimate 6-4 win over the New Mexico Lobos.

In addition to capturing the conference title, the victory also gave the Aztecs a berth in the NCAA Regionals, where they will play UC Santa Barbara.

This marks the team's first step on the road to Omaha, where the College World Series is played.

Last year due to scheduling conflicts in the local area, the Aztecs traveled all the way to Louisiana for their regional competition. This year they only have to go to Lake Elsinore, about an hour drive up Interstate 15.

Head coach Mark Martinez said the short trip has the potential to give them an advantage.

"I'm willing to step in and roll up my sleeves and do whatever it takes to get as many people to come up and watch us and support our guys," Martinez said. "They would be honored to have people there and play in front of a kind of home crowd."

The Aztecs face the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos this Friday hoping to win their first regional series in program history.
