Cal ISO Calls Off Statewide Flex Alerts For Weekend

Cal ISO Calls Off Statewide Flex Alerts For Weekend
Cooler temperatures on the coast eased engineers worries about draws on the state's power grid.

Cal ISO - California's power grid operator - has issued a Flex Alert for today because of high electricity demand. But the alert for both Saturday and Sunday has been called off.

Stephanie McCorkle with CAL ISO said the expected draw on the grid from cities near the ocean shouldn’t be as bad as engineers had feared.

"Temps, especially in Southern California are coming down a little bit, especially on the coastal areas," said McCorkle. "We are going to lift the Flex Alert for the weekend. We’re keeping an eye on Monday though.”

McCorkle said there are frequently large demands for electricity on Mondays as people turn the air conditioning on to cool down buildings that have heated up over the weekend.
