Presidents Day looked more like the Fourth of July at Mission Beach on Monday. Hundreds of people — loaded with boogie boards, towels and sunscreen — flocked to the shorelines to enjoy the warm weather.
Reynaldo Geske, a Mira Mesa resident, spent Sunday and Monday at the beach with his family.
"The weather's great. Nowhere else gets this weather. Nowhere. That's why we live here," Geske said.
A Santa Ana weather pattern is causing warm temperatures for San Diego County's coast and valleys, as well as windy conditions, National Weather Service San Diego said on Facebook.
Temperatures are expected to be as much as 20 degrees above normal for the coast and valleys on Monday and Tuesday.
Jacqueline Barrientos of Washington, D.C., was in San Diego for a business trip Monday.
"So I've already talked to my husband. He's got two kids home from school, and it's cold and it's snowing. And I'm here in this beautiful sunny weather. So he's like, don't call me again," Barrientos said.
Heat records were set in some North County areas Monday.
Escondido hit 89, beating the previous record of 88 set in 1943. Vista reported a high of 89, breaking the old record of 86 set in 1985.
Oceanside Harbor reached a high of 79, topping the previous record of 78, also set in 1985.
Temperatures are expected to cool down on Wednesday. A chance of rain and snow showers are also predicted for the mountains Wednesday night and Thursday, the weather service said. There is a 50 percent chance of rain along the San Diego coast and about a 70 percent chance in the mountains during that time, said Jimmy Taeger, a weather service forecaster.
