There's a new weapon against cancer in the South Bay. Sharp is celebrating the grand opening of a state-of-the-art cancer treatment facility in Chula Vista. The three-story center has some distinctive features.

A state-of-the-art cancer center is opening in the South Bay.

It looks more like an art museum than a medical facility.

The lobby has colorful pictures, a fireplace, and lots of natural light.

The corridors are wide, and filled with paintings.

But make no mistake, this is a cancer center with the latest high-tech equipment.

Yet even the radiation treatment rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows with garden views.

Builder Douglas Barnhart is a cancer survivor himself. He said the Chula Vista center was designed from the patient's point of view. He pointed out the entire structure was built to aid in the healing process.

Barnhart donated $1 million to the facility, and Sharp decided to name it after him.

The Douglas & Nancy Barnhart Cancer Center should be open for business sometime this summer.
