The California Department of Food and Agriculture has mandated a statewide recall and quarantine of some raw products from "Organic Pastures Dairy" near Fresno.
A pathogen called campylobacter was found in raw cream from the dairy. Steve Lyle from the CDFA said ten illnesses have been traced to Organic Pastures.
"In this particular case, we had the epidemiological information, and a lab sample, so we had more to go on than we often do," said Lyle.
Mark McAfee of Organic Pastures Dairy questions the state's methods, and said he doesn't connect the illness to his products.
"To recall of all of our products is an outrageous overstepping of authority in my opinion," commented McAfee.
The CDC said almost two-and-a-half million people may be sickened by campylobacter each year and about 124 die annually from the bacterium.
McAfee said Organic Pastures' products will be back in stores in five to six days.
