Reporter Returns to Find Afghan War Orphans

In 2004, reporter Malcolm Garcia moved to Afghanistan to cover the war. In Kabul, he struck up a special relationship with a group of orphans who made their living on the streets. Garcia recently returned to Afghanistan to search for the young friends he had left behind.

Garcia discusses his recent article, "All the Country Will Be Shaking," published in the Virginia Quarterly Review, and what he describes as simmering anger and hopelessness in Afghanistan.

Roland Paris, associate professor of public and international affairs at the University of Ottawa, testified before an independent panel on how the Canadian government should proceed in Afghanistan. He weighs in on the current situation in the country.
