The U.S. military has relied heavily on National Guard and Reserve forces to meet the demands of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Guard and Reserve members typically leave civilian jobs when they deploy — a hardship for many, especially small-business owners.
Congressional efforts are under way to alleviate the burden.
