Blogger and author Courtney Carver is a proponent of the idea that an excess of possessions can cause stress in your life and distract you from what you really want out of life.
Carver is in San Diego Monday to discuss her new book, "Soulful Simplicity: How living with less can lead to so much more." She is also the creator of the Project 333 challenge, which encourages people to dress with 33 items or less every three months.

Carver began simplifying her life to reduce stress after she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and discovered that to manage the disease she needed to reduce stress.
Carver began with simplifying her diet and then moved on to reducing debt and clutter.
"I lived in a big house that I had a huge mortgage payment for and lots of credit card debt. Working all of the time, at a job that I didn't enjoy and just on the go ... never stopping," Carver said. "And today ... I'm in a completely different career, I live in an apartment half the size, we probably own about 90 percent less stuff than we used to have ... I travel more, I spend more time taking care of myself and I'm a much happier person."
Carver joins Midday Edition Monday to discuss her new book.
