Nearly 40 coffee, tea and chocolate shops in San Diego County are participating in the seventh annual San Diego Caffeine Crawl, which kicks off Friday.
Jason Burton organizes caffeine crawls across the country. He said San Diego's coffee scene is as good as, if not better than, what Los Angeles and the Bay Area have to offer.
He said San Diego has been and continues to be innovative in incorporating different ingredients that represent its population.
"A lot of those ingredients that are brought in to coffee, you're starting to see in other parts of the country, but I've had some of the most unique coffee-based drinks I've ever had in San Diego," Burton said.

Ryan Bros Coffee has been participating in the crawls since 2016 and will participate again this year.
Thomas Ryan, the owner of Ryan Bros Coffee, said his company is unique in that they make their cold brew coffee, keg it and serve it on draft.
"It really has allowed us to take the product back and craft a finished product," Ryan said.
The crawl runs through Sunday. There are 11 different routes those that buy tickets can choose from. Each route includes about five stops and each stop gives out a sample and a demo or presentation.
