The San Diego Black Film Festival runs from Jan. 29 through Feb. 2 at the Theater Box San Diego.
The San Diego Black Film Festival has been a platform to showcase African American and African Diaspora films for nearly two decades.
This year's festival opens with the coming-of-age story "Pink Opaque," a drama by director Derrick Perry. The festival also includes the documentary "The Evers" about the life of slain civil rights activist Medgar Evers. Also showing is "Louder Than Rock," a documentary on the life of Caleb Quaye, who is the original guitarist for Elton John. The festival runs Jan. 29 through Feb. 2.
Karen Willis, director of the San Diego Black Film Festival, joined Midday Edition on Wednesday with a preview of this year's festival lineup.
