Following the historical loss of a congressional district, California's redistricting commission weighs in on how the change will affect how efforts to redraw the state's districts.

California will lose a congressional seat for the first time in the state’s history leaving many in the state wondering what this means for their voice in Washington and how districts are formed in the first place.

The task itself falls to the 14 people who sit on the California Citizens Redistricting Commission, the bipartisan group responsible for drawing district lines.

Patricia Sinay, a Democrat, is a member of the California Citizens Redistricting Commission. She joined Midday Edition on Wednesday to break down the process.
