The two Marine pilots rescued last week from the Pacific Ocean after their jet crashed are making progress as they heal from their injuries at Naval Medical Center San Diego. 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing spokeswoman 1st Lt. Maureen Dooley told the Associated Press that both men are expected to make a full recovery.
Although the military hasn't identified the Marines, the family of Capt. Pete Brawn of Albany, Oregon told local newspaper Albany Democrat-Herald he was one of the downed pilots. Dan and Carolyn Brawn flew to San Diego to see their son after his accident. He suffered broken bones and hypothermia, and required surgery.
Capt. Brawn and his colleague spent four hours in the cold Pacific 85 miles southwest of San Diego after they ejected from their distressed Hornet F/A-18D, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. The Coast Guard cutter Edisto rescued the men.
