British Army Capt. Harry Wales - a.k.a. Prince Harry - arrived at Naval Air Facility El Centro this morning, according to the UK Ministry of Defence (it's spelled with a "c" over there). On the tenth anniversary of the war in Afghanistan, one of the conflict's most famous veterans is in California to participate in a specialized helicopter training course held in El Centro and at Arizona's Gila Bend Air Force Auxiliary Air Field.
Once he finishes this training course, he'll be certified as combat-ready on the Apache helicopter.
The Telegraph has reported Prince Harry will return to Afghanistan at some point in the future, and so it's no coincidence he's training in the desert areas of NAF El Centro and Arizona. As British Army Lt. Col. Peter Bullen explained to CNN:
"The environment here is certainly what you encounter in Afghanistan. You can't replicate that in England."
Not surprisingly, the BBC is all over this story (as are many of the female reporters in my newsroom). It's kind of interesting to see the way the British view their prince's visit to El Centro. Click here to take a look.
