The USS Ronald Reagan is leaving its home port of Naval Air Station North Island this evening for a year-long stint in Bremerton, Washington. The Reagan is headed to the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility to undergo $218 million worth of repairs, according to the Associated Press.
USS Ronald Reagan commanding officer, Capt. Thom Burke, told the Kitsap Sun:
Although it hasn't been confirmed by the Navy, the Reagan is expected to return to its home port of San Diego after repairs are completed, according to the Kitsap Sun.
San Diego 6 News reports the Reagan was initially supposed to leave Coronado this morning, but a few mechanical problems delayed the departure until Friday evening.
