The 170 military mothers who were guests at the White House Mother's Day tea Thursday were treated to a surprise visitor - Prince Harry of Great Britain.
The Armed Forces Press Service reported that at the beginning of the event, Prince Harry had been in the State Dining Room, helping several dozen military children make gifts for their moms. His unexpected appearance later in the East Room, where the Mother's Day tea was held, inspired gasps from the audience.
First lady Michele Obama told the shocked crowd:
“When he heard about this tea and all of you, he wanted to be here to personally thank you for your service."
Prince Harry has been deployed twice to Afghanistan as Capt. Harry Wales of the British Army.
He is spending a week in the United States to support several charities for military families, veterans, and wounded warriors.
You can watch the surprise for yourself. The video posted up top, courtesy of the White House, shows the royal visitor's surprise appearance at 21:20. Happy Mother's Day!
