Military Dog POW Fed Diet Of Kebab, Say Taliban Captors (Video)

A military working dog apparently is in good health and being fed a diet of kebab, according to statement released by the dog's captors — the Taliban, according to Stars and Stripes.

The Taliban captured the Belgian Malinois on Dec. 23, 2013. The Sunday Times reports the dog was nabbed during a British special forces raid that went awry when the Taliban was supposedly tipped off beforehand:

Capt. Richard Holloway, 29, was killed during the operation to kill or capture a high-ranking Taliban commander in the Alingar valley of Laghman province near the Pakistani border in December.

The canine prisoner of war is believed to be a British military dog named Colonel.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid told Britain's Telegraph newspaper the dog's captors are treating him well:

“He was not injured and is not being mistreated...

“It is not like the local dogs which will eat anything and sleep anywhere. We have to prepare him proper food and make sure he has somewhere to sleep properly.”
NATO International Security Assistance Force officials explained to Stars and Stripes that they believe this is the first time a military working dog has been taken captive during the 13 years of the war in Afghanistan.
