My Katonah? Martha Stewart Ruffles Feathers

Some residents of Katonah, N.Y., are miffed that their neighbor, Martha Stewart, is trying to trademark the village's name. Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia is selling some furniture as part of a "Katonah Collection."

The company has said Stewart named the line to honor her new hometown. But not everyone feels honored.

William O'Neill, vice president of the Katonah Village Improvement Society, says Stewart shouldn't be able to use the name exclusively. Stewart's company wants to trademark "Katonah."

Dotted with upscale stores and quaint homes and located about an hour from New York City, Katonah is so small that it's officially designated a "hamlet."

With the help of a trademark attorney, the Katonah Village Improvement Society has asked for more time to object to the trademark application.

Nevertheless, the Katonah line is already for sale. The sofas, four-poster beds and dining room tables are described on Martha Stewart's Web site as "classic American… with a touch of formal refinement and a spirit of refreshed traditionalism."
