Senate Investigates Oil, Gas Royalty Collections

Within the Interior Department, a program called the Minerals Management Service is supposed to collect royalties from oil and gas companies that drill on public lands. Whistle blowers within the agency claim that senior officials blocked them from recovering billions of dollars in royalty payments.

Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR), a member of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, has followed this issue closely. He speaks to Scott Simon about a year-long investigation into mismanagement and ethics problems at the agency.
