The city of San Diego is poised to take a compromise position over a contested contract award for security at Qualcomm Stadium, according to documents posted online today.
When San Diego-based Elite Show Services was awarded a multi-year deal in 2010, StaffPro Inc. of Orange County appealed to an ad hoc committee of city executives -- claiming bias -- and won. Security at the stadium in Mission Valley has been handled with interim contracts while a new agreement was stitched together.
According to the city documents, both companies are in line to get a piece of the pie for the next three years.
Elite Show Services would patrol the property around the clock with two guards, and provide event security for Chargers football games. The company has guarded the facility since the 1990s.
StaffPro would provide security at other events inside the stadium, including San Diego State football contests, two college bowl games and soccer matches.
The city would pay the companies nearly $1.1 million over the life of the deal, according to the documents. Two option years, if exercised, would cost just over $800,000.
If the City Council's Budget Committee approves the deal on Wednesday, the proposal will be sent on to the full council for final approval at a later date.
