Part of the west end of San Diego State University was hit with a power outage Monday at approximately 11:40 a.m.

When the lights went out, social media lit up.

"Power went out during our staff meeting," Tweeted amyjeanchecho. "Now we are all sitting around in the dark. Productive work day."

"Power out at the theatre at #SDSU - so I guess I have more free time now," Dhassing Tweeted.

KPBS has created a public safety coverage policy to guide decisions on what stories we prioritize, as well as whose narratives we need to include to tell complete stories that best serve our audiences. This policy was shaped through months of training with the Poynter Institute and feedback from the community. You can read the full policy here.
