San Diego’s original tasting tour returns to the iconic Gaslamp Quarter for the Taste of Gaslamp on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The Taste of Gaslamp is a scrumptious self-guided foodie tour that has become a staple for locals and tourists alike who flock to the Quarter to indulge in a culinary adventure stopping at 20+ restaurants across 16 square city blocks. A little background on this world-renowned artist: Kelly "RISK" Graval has been synonymous with the Los Angeles art community for over 30 Years. From his early days as a founder of the West Coast Graffiti movement to gallery and museum exhibits around the globe, including the 2012 "Art In The Streets" at the LA MoCA and the hugely successful “Beyond The Streets” exhibits in Los Angeles and New York. His work is shown at top galleries in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Toronto, New York, Miami, and London. He was knighted by the Medici Family He was the first artist invited to paint in Michaelangelo's studio in over 400 years He was the first West Coast artist to paint the N.Y. Subway Trains. During summer break from high school in 1987, he hitchhiked to New York to paint Subway trains. He spent a few weeks painting trains, tunnels, and streets. Jasper Sussman is a composer, vocalist, researcher, and educator known for her raw and vulnerable vocal timbres and her expressive, emotional compositions. Sussman’s program, Strength Upon My Tongue, will feature a small cast of artists presenting a theatrical multimedia performance of song, poetry, and dance. Sussman combines art songs with freeform twentieth century works in which each piece builds on the last in an exploration of grief and acceptance. Fantasy and legend abound in the first of La Jolla Music Society's Summerfest intermission-free Wednesday concerts highlighting and illuminating the cornerstones of the chamber music repertoire. Schumann’s immensely popular and fanciful piano quintet and fantasy-pieces bookend Janáček’s quirky miniature piano concerto, based on imaginary animal encounters, as well as the U.S. premiere of fairy-tale pieces for violin and piano by our season’s composer-in-residence, Thomas Adès—one of the most important and celebrated composers, pianists, and conductors today (and our music director’s favorite living composer!).
