Conductor Robert Spano leads the San Diego Symphony in Lutosławski's Concerto for Orchestra, an astonishingly impressive piece; powerful and brilliantly written. Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 represents the pinnacle of Romantic concerto writing, and the virtuosic American pianist Garrick Ohlsson takes on this dazzling concerto with fire and flair that will have you cheering.   • The Theatre School @ North Coast Rep presents this pastoral romantic comedy, "As You Like It", as its next student production that will tour to three different outdoor venues in three different cities - Admission is free! Banishment, forlorn lovers, a sardonic fool, an even more moody pity party in the woods… What better set-up for a comedy?! Find out why “All the world’s a stage” and share in the celebration of family reuniting, past wrongs forgiven, and love, at last, won by all. “I like this place, and willingly could waste my time in it.” Director Benjamin Cole is proud to present this emotional roller-coaster for four sets of couples as they attempt to cure their love sickness or allow themselves to fall fully head over heels while still taking time to philosophize about the beauty of nature versus the ridiculousness of courtly manners. “I love the annual tradition we have established in North County San Diego of offering free live student Shakespeare performances in these outdoor venues,” Cole explains. “Each of the venues gives our students unique opportunities to expand their acting skills, and further their understanding and appreciation of both Shakespeare and the incredible outdoors we have the privilege to visit,” he expounds. Assistant Director, Steve Smith adds, “The cast of As You Like It is one of the most talented groups we’ve had at the Theatre School, but even more importantly, they’re tremendously supportive of one another and excel in collaboration. There’s something for all theatregoers in this show: characters who are lovesick and characters who are sick of love, hilarious clowns and heroic figures, battles of wit and a wrestling match.” The show runs a pleasing 90 minutes with no intermission and hopes to inspire a greater acceptance of each other and our places in this world. This poignant show offers the visions of three choreographers and embraces performance through the emotional and thoughtful means of dance. James LaRose brings back a work which highlights the functions and mechanics of the human body and how they compare to the operation of everyday machines. Khamla Somphanh piece, Radiation, explores weaknesses, strengths, choices made to take on challenges, and the search for guidance to persevere. Cello brings together the full company in a series of dance vignettes and reconstructs the way music and dance can be shared. Taking the rich and vibrant timbre of the cello and rhythms of Africa, Spencer John Powell, weaves classical and tribal dance forms together as a part of our modern world.
  • This original exhibition of digital photography with historical context, explores Bonita and Sweetwater Valley landscape, landmarks and architecture. For the exhibition Mark has been hiking the Sweetwater Valley area in South Bay San Diego documenting the area utilizing aerial drone photography creating 360 degree panoramic views. He has been working with the collection of the Bonita Historical Society to include information about local historic homes, including the 1908 Irving J. Gill and Frank Mead "Allen House," the “Otay Limited” National City & Otay railway, as well as early pioneer maps and historical objects inviting the public to discover the evolution of the local landscape of natural geography juxtaposed with architectural and commercial development.
