The annual San Diego St. Patrick's Day Parade and Festival in San Diego, California, celebrate its 41st annual parade and festival in beautiful Balboa Park. This year, we are honoring Celtic Culture, Commerce, and Community in the San Diego region. The event’s main attraction is the parade (which starts at 10:30), which features over 100 floats complete with marching bands, bagpipers, traditional Irish dance troupes, police and fire departments, clowns, and dignitaries. The festival (9 a.m. – 6 p.m.) will host two stages for music and dance, food and drink, vendors, info booths, and fun for the entire family. $5 entry for 21 and over and active duty military with I.D. are free. This is a great way to celebrate Irish heritage and culture. Don your green, grab your shamrocks, and follow the rainbow to a day of Irish fun, rain or shine!

On Valentine’s Day weekend, Saturday, Feb. 11, 2023, Crisis House will be celebrating the 3rd Annual Hearts of Gold - Inspire Hope for a Brighter Future Gala at the newly renovated U.S. Grant Hotel. The gala is the only fundraiser of the year. We are proud to add that 93% of every dollar raised goes directly to programs and services. Crisis House has been a landmark multi-service agency located in east San Diego County since 1972. They operate a collective of housing programs for survivors of domestic abuse and their children. Crisis House responds to the needs of 125 of our community’s children in their Camp HOPE program, one-of-a-kind camping and mentorship program that heals the children traumatized by domestic violence in their homes. The Mobile Outreach Team immediately responded to the needs of 677 people experiencing homelessness and connected them to housing and other life-saving resources. In FY 2021- 2022 alone, Crisis House served a total of 5,456 people and ended homelessness for 292 families with 365 children. Although this study was conducted at Imperial Beach in Southern California, the findings have implications for other coastal areas worldwide that have been affected by human activity. Swimming or playing in ocean water after it rains is not the only way to be exposed to sewage pollution, according to new research led by Scripps Oceanography. We will hear from Scripps PhD graduate Matthew Pendergraft about the findings of a recent study led by him and Scripps atmospheric chemist Kim Prather. He will discuss whether sewage-polluted coastal waters transfer to the atmosphere in sea spray aerosol and if this can pose a potential threat to people far beyond just beachgoers, surfers, and swimmers. A torrid game of charades, a whirlwind engagement, and dramatic fainting all occur in a single act! The characters’ emotive personalities and curt bickering play against the atmosphere of English high society in this layered comedy. The self-absorbed Bliss family fails to recognize their own petulant behaviors as the weekend unravels. With a committed ensemble, this sharp-witted and over-the-top comedy will surely be a riot as Hay Fever continues to delight audiences with its astute observations on family relationships and rivalries.
