The ultimate goal of the entire Certification process is to enable the writer to produce a publishable manuscript. In each workshop session, writing assignments or prompts will be provided as well as precise and qualitative feedback on the poems produced. Although not necessary, this workshop is designed to strongly encourage the generation of new work and the fine-tuning of previously written poems. Upon completing this workshop, you will have: Gained knowledge of the basic tools of the poet. Experienced the productive quality of a read and critique workshop. Read and analyzed two different books of poetry or poetry craft. Developed an ability to actively analyze and critique a poem. Established a writing habit of working from a prompt.
  • Ekphrastic poets find their inspiration in works of visual art. The poems they write imagine, describe or expand upon the “story” of an image, and each individual poet creates unique works of poetic art, separate from but related to the visual art. In this workshop Sarah Z. Sleeper will teach you methodologies so that you can confidently approach this exciting cross-genre art space. You will work in the lovely Inspirations Gallery and will create one or more of your own ekphrastic poems. The art will be the current show in Inspirations, “Threads of Inspiration.” Please Note: This class will be held IN PERSON at our space in Inspirations Gallery (2730 Historic Decatur Rd., Suite 204, San Diego, CA, 92106).
