Manzanita Concert Series is pleased to welcome back lutenist Eric Dickerson to present his concert program, The Lute in the 18th Century. SDSU Master of Music Eric Dickerson will perform virtuosic works by Sylvius Leopold Weiss and Johann Anton Logy on his 13 course Baroque lute. Free-will donations support the artist. St. Paul’s PACE, a program that cares for San Diego’s most frail and low-income seniors, is hosting their annual St. Paul’s Essential Needs Drive (SPEND), kicking off on Friday, November 18 – collecting items through December 16. Each year, the drive is meant to encourage San Diegans to donate essential items or small gifts. St. Paul’s PACE cares for seniors; through this drive, San Diegans are called to help too! The program has close to 1,300 seniors and the goal is to provide essential needs and fall/winter items this holiday season to all participants. All items must be new and are asked to be unwrapped. Items of need include: Food gift cards, Non-perishable canned goods, cleaning supplies, blankets, socks, hygiene products, etc. There are four donation drop-off locations – open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. SOCIAL MEDIA: Facebook | Instagram | Twitter

The San Diego Action Center for the non-profit Child Rights & You, America brings the celebration of Holi - Festival of Colors to San Diego on Saturday, March 11, 2023, in Hourglass Community Park, Black Mountain Road (near Miramar College). CRY America's San Diego Action Center is a group of volunteers who are organizing this event. It draws people who come here to greet each other by applying color (very eco-friendly) on each other, dancing to music, and enjoying Indian food from various vendors. We would like to welcome all of San Diego to come with friends and family to participate in this celebration of color in our lives, to let go of our own worries, enjoy being a child, and help bring color to the children's lives! Our panel of experts will discuss their involvement in creating a win-win outcome at County of San Diego’s watershed protection and composting demonstration site, located within Ramona’s International Equestrian Center. Panelists include: - Kelsea Jacobsen, Solana Center’s Environmental Education Programs Manager, will serve as the panel moderator. She has a BA in Environmental Studies with a Focus in Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems from UC Santa Cruz. - Nancy Zadrozny of Ramona’s International Equestrian Center has a background in horticulture and ecology, along with 15 years experience as vice president of an engineering construction firm. She served as manager of the San Diego Country Estates’ Equestrian Centers for five years and is currently the manager of their Landscape Department. She is also a member of Back Country Horsemen, San Vicente Saddle Club, and the Ramona Trails Association. - Craig Kolodge, Ph.D., is the former academic advisor, field plant pathologist and county director for the University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) in Santa Clara County. He currently serves as the Business Development and Sustainability Manager for San Pasqual Valley Soils. Craig is a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC) and an expert in the use of compost-based Sustainable Management Practices (SMPs) for storm water management and industrial pollution management (Trainer of Record for Qualified Industrial Stormwater Practitioner – QISP statewide program). - Josh Robinson holds a Master’s Degree in Ecological Landscape Design. He is the director and co-founder of the San Diego Sustainable Living Institute and is a principal landscape designer for Ecology Artisans. His work has been featured in two books: Art Ludwig’s Create an Oasis with Greywater, and Toby Hemenway’s Gaia’s Garden. MandoBasso is a duo featuring Gunnar Biggs on bass and Bill Bradbury on mandolin. Their original music is influenced by traditional American and Celtic music, classical music, and jazz. For this evening’s concert they will “lean into” the Celtic origins of their own music as well as share some traditional Irish and Scottish music played in a new light. Gunnar and Bill came together as colleagues working on projects at Palomar College and Cal State San Marcos. Gunnar comes from a strong background in jazz and classical performance, Bill from a composition and computer music background. Their mutual love of Irish and traditional American music brought them together in this unusual pairing of mandolin and bass. MandoBasso performances include mainly new compositions, along with arrangements of traditional music, classical music, jazz, and ragtime. Gunnar Biggs is a Southern California bassist and music educator. He is active in many genres of musical performance including jazz, Latin, classical, world, and experimental. Recently retired from San Diego State University after twenty-five years as Instructor of Double Bass and as Director of Jazz Ensembles at Palomar Community College, Gunnar continues to maintain a thriving private teaching practice. Bill Bradbury is Emeritus Professor of Music and Music Technology in the Music Department at California State University, San Marcos. His creative activities include compositions for orchestra, chamber ensembles, soloists, and electronic media and computer-based multimedia collaborations with other artists.
