The Tenth Annual Borrego Springs Film Festival will take place January 12 – 16, 2023, in Borrego Springs, California - a small town located in the northern end of the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, in San Diego County. The five-day festival presents screenings of selected short films, features, documentaries, animated shorts, and Hispanic/Latin films, submitted by filmmakers from around the world, which are shown in Blocks at the Borrego Springs Performing Arts Center. Festival passes and tickets for individual screening Blocks can be purchased at borregospringsfilmfestival.org, and a full schedule of the Screening Blocks can be found there. Join us for the closing reception of Saulo Cisneros' photographic exhibition at You Belong Here San Diego. "Cambio Concreto: New Broken Promises" is a photographic exhibition exploring the themes of concrete change in the metropolitan city of Tijuana Baja California. As the city reopens post-Covid-19 there has been an explosion of new development, growth, and investment yet the realities of life in poverty for a large population of the city's residents remain concrete. Saulo will participate in a Q&A session to comment on the collection and its purpose for any guests that are interested in exploring a deeper understanding of the socio-political issues that the exhibition aims to address. Tasha Smith Godinez has opened a door to her musical world through her new album, "Out of the Desert." She composed the 13 tracks between 2020 and 2021, as a refuge from the chaotic world around her. Master musicians, Christopher Garcia on percussion and Domenico Hueso on viola join her to create a magical sound. Tasha Smith Godinez is a lifelong musician. She began her musical studies as a child with both the violin and harp and has continued to dedicate her life to making music ever since. Tasha has studied the harp internationally acclaimed performers and instructors including Isabelle Perrin, Elena Mashkovtseva and Susan Allen. She holds performance degrees from both San Diego State University (Bachelor's 2005, Master's 2010) and l'Ecole Normale de Musique Alfred Corot in Paris, France (2006). Ms. Smith Godinez has held the position of principal harpist for both the Orquesta de Baja California (Tijuana, Mexico) and the Grossmont Symphony Orchestra (San Diego, California) as well as a handful of appearances with the San Diego Symphony. The Friends of the Encinitas Library present Watson, Beldock & Beach with special guests Memo Acevedo and Dave Blackburn performing an acoustic blend of original folk, blues and jazz. This free show will be at the Encinitas Library on Sunday, February 5, from 2-3 p.m. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. Together, the three are known for their dazzling musicianship, beautiful harmonies and humorous stage presence. Peggy Watson is known for her wide vocal range and her smooth emotional voice. David Beldock is widely regarded as one of San Diego’s best guitar players as well as being a top-notch, award-winning songwriter. Bassist, Paul Beach, toured the world for many years with well-known bands, including Gary Puckett, Spanky and Our Gang, The Association and the Mamas and Papas. The trio will be joined by special guests Memo Acevedo and Dave Blackburn. Memo Acevedo is an internationally renowned drummer/percussionist. He has performed with artists such as Tito Puente, Gregory Hines, Stephen Stills, Bruce Cockburn, Tom Scott and many more. Dave Blackburn is an established record producer/engineer, a guitarist, a drummer and an award-winning songwriter.
