  • Join us this Saturday, August 30, from 4 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.! Learn to create your own one of a kind ceramic air plant holders in this 2.5 hour workshop! There are many variations of designs for these vessels, and many options for surface design. We will explore texture using tools and objects to create unique designs and shapes that will dazzle your plants and bring the beauty to your home. Each student may create up to three holders. Your pieces will then be fired as-is (no glaze) for a natural, earthen aesthetic. If you’d like to make more than three plant holders during class and have time remaining, additional holders can be made for a $5 fee. Projects will be ready to pick up 3-4 weeks after class. No experience necessary. All materials and tools provided. Ages 12+ years or 6+ years with an adult. By focusing on techniques to confidently create functional and aesthetic pottery, we will learn creative design, how to throw on the wheel, trimming and glazing! Thursdays, August 28, September 4, 11, 18, October 2, from 6 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., with the last class of the series from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. In this 5-week wheel-throwing course, Ceramicist Briena Chavez guides students looking to build a solid foundation in ceramics while progressively developing their skills. This class is perfect for beginners and those who want to refine their techniques through a guided approach. Throughout the course, students will learn fundamental throwing techniques, trimming, altering forms, and glazing, gaining confidence on the wheel while creating functional pottery. Each week introduces a new skill that builds on the previous one, ensuring steady growth and mastery of key pottery concepts. Students gain hands-on experience with throwing and understanding of clay behavior from start to finish, as well as confidence in being on the wheel and a deeper knowledge of glaze choices and surface treatments. Projects will be ready to pick up 3-4 weeks after the last class. Beginners welcome. Jim has collected stories from Exit Guides, volunteers who are with people who choose to end their lives to relieve their suffering using do-It-yourself legal methods. "The Shape of Things – The Dick Brewer Story" chronicles the colorful and controversial, legendary surfboard designer Dick Brewer. Arguably the most influential surfboard shaper of in the 1960’s and 1970’s, Dick Brewer has often been called the father of the modern-day surfboard. He changed the design of surfing equipment not once, not twice, but three times in his 50-year career as a trailblazer, with all the notorious tales that have until now remained just rumored legends. Brewer’s designs have been interpreted, modified, and often copied through the gifted hands of shapers on every coast and in every decade since the 1960’s. He mentored, taught, and inspired dozens of the world’s top shapers. Today, his rails, his rockers, and bottom are intrinsic to surfboard design. Directed and edited with the skill of a lifelong cinematographer Bob Campi, this biopic captures the rise, fall, and ultimate redemption of visionary who changed the world of surfing forever. that was a trailblazer throughout his career. The filmmakers tell his story with phenomenal cinematography and archival footage coupled with this retro soundtrack, this film will take you back to the era where surfers and board designers redefined what riding a wave could be.
