The San Diego Automotive Museum will be hosting a garage sale on Saturday, July 30, 2022, from 7:00 am to 10:00 am at its storage facility in National City, located at 600 West 12th Street, 91950. Items for sale will include a wide variety of vintage tools and parts, both large and small. Vintage tool items include a hydraulic pipe bender, an English wheel, drill presses, electric cutoff, multiple rolling toolboxes, and so much more. The vintage parts for sale include parts for an Austin Healey 3000, 1980s Mercedes-Benz, and 1930s Cadillac, along with 1950s body panels and engine components, a set of “new” 1980s Ronal wheels, and many other treasures for a vintage-car restoration project. "Script/Rescript" features the artwork of ten artists who use historical and contemporary medicalizing scripts of their own bodies to colorfully rescript – or rewrite – visual language attributed to individual conditions of disability. An X-ray, a prosthesis, a cane, a crutch, a pill, a wheelchair tire, or a syringe are the foundation in which to build new creative layers of empowered self-described embodiment. The work in this exhibition conveys disabled identity via new mapping, through-lines and mark-making, where the artists reject pathological archives by injecting them with memories, lived experiences, and sensorial attributes. The Mariachi Scholarship Foundation’s Mariachi Summit GALA CONCERT returns! Celebrating the rich history of Mexican music with the heirs of this legacy: Lupita Infante, Rafael Jorge Negrete, Juan Mendoza “El Tariacuri”, Gabriel Solis, and more. With maestro Alberto de la Rosa and the "Tlen Huicani All Stars” (the world’s premier jarocho and huasteco ensemble), San Diego’s own Mariachi Champaña Nevin, the San Diego Binational Symphony Orchestra and Ballet Folklórico Internacional with choreography by Amalia Viviana Basanta Hernández. Directed by Jeff Nevin. All proceeds benefit mariachi education in San Diego and college scholarships for local mariachi and ballet folklórico students.
