From the organizers: The Sukkot holiday is an ancient Jewish harvest festival reflecting themes of hospitality and the welcoming of strangers; like all the farm’s events, the festival will welcome people of all backgrounds. The community is invited to meet under the sukkah (temporary shelter) for a day filled with live music, food, and activities for all ages. Festivities include farm tours, a Kid Zone, hand-crafted goods made by local Jewish artists, live entertainment, as well as food and drink vendor options for purchase. RSVP here. NOTE: THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER The 2022 San Diego Festival of the Arts will return to San Diego Surf Sports Park in North San Diego on Saturday and Sunday, September 10 and 11. The festival moved permanently to the San Diego Surf Sports Park last year and has proved to be extremely successful. Guests and artists love its easy freeway access and ample convenient parking. Residents are encouraged to come out and enjoy this prestigious juried festival, now in its 36th year. This age 21 and up event showcases stunning works of painting, sculpture, photography, glass, jewelry, ceramics, wood, fiber and mixed media from more than 150 world renowned artists. Ticket sales (starting at $13), a silent auction and wine and beer sales all benefit local adaptive sports programs supporting thousands of San Diegans with disabilities. The San Diego Festival of the Arts Foundation, Inc., through this primary fundraiser, has raised more than $2.7 million for this cause since 1987. Beyond the incredible selection of art on display available for purchase, guests will once again enjoy world-class live music and entertainment both days, a selection of outdoor lawn games and a variety of cuisine options for every palate, from gourmet wood-fired pizza to BBQ and more. Aussie singer Vance Joy is coming to San Diego for his brand new In Our Own Sweet Time Tour! Australian indie folk singer/songwriter Vance Joy began his career playing the open-mic scene while completing his law degree. Finding success in the music industry, Joy decided to put law on hold and pursue a music career instead. Born James Keogh, Joy recorded his first EP, "God Loves You When You're Dancing," which was highlighted by the career-establishing single, "Riptide." The overwhelmingly popular track earned Joy the top spot on the 2013 Triple J Hottest 100, beating out artists like Lorde. Joy's other singles, which include "Mess is Mine," "Georgia," "Fire and the Flood," "Lay It On Me," "I'm With You," "Saturday Sun," and many many more, have been streamed more than 3.2 billion times. Bay Area rockers Mom Jeans are coming to San Diego for their brand new Sweet Tooth Tour! “Give me something sweet so I can make it through the week/Don’t care if I end up with cavities.” This is the plea that opens Sweet Tooth, the upcoming third LP from Berkeley’s Mom Jeans. It’s the introduction to a quasi-concept record, a structural departure for the emo punk quartet. Before any of the record’s 13 songs had been written and recorded, the band knew what Sweet Tooth would sound like: late ‘90s and early 2000s pop rock and pop punk bliss. For frontman Eric Butler, that meant revisiting the guitar pop perfection of Weezer and Oasis alongside deep cuts from one-hit wonders like Third Eye Blind, Fountains of Wayne, and Superdrag. The 8th annual Josephson-Spindler Gala Dinner & Silent Auction aims to expand awareness about childhood obesity and its growing impact on our community. This year, the gala is on March 12, 2022, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Embassy Suites by Hilton San Diego - La Jolla. Each year this memorable event has garnered national recognition from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. All proceeds from this year's event will support Heaven's Windows, Kids Eat Right, and the Student Nutrition Organization at San Diego State University. For over 40 years, the Student Nutrition Organization (SNO) has served our community through volunteering, advocacy, and philanthropy. We strive for our members to develop strong professional and community relationships, and this gala is how we give back to our community locally and nationally. As the prevalence of childhood obesity increases, SNO wants to bring attention to the Kids Eat Right campaign. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics developed this national campaign to educate families, communities, and policymakers about the importance of quality nutrition to promote optimal health for kids and their families. Additionally, we want to shine light on a local non-profit, Heaven's Windows, that provides exceptional nourishment to kids in need in San Diego County. They work to elevate the current living conditions of poverty-stricken residents and assist in establishing a stable and productive living environment. Heaven's Windows supports building strong families as an investment in the future through their food assistance and child nutrition programs.
