Through beautiful images, this talk will introduce the Rajputs and the arts they patronized, with an emphasis on manuscript paintings. We will look at the ways that Rajput rulers used art as a way to promote specific ideas about their power, their traditions, and their position in relation to the ruling Mughal emperors, and later the British. The talk will touch on the ways that the paintings were made and used, and will include some choice examples from The San Diego Museum of Art’s Edwin Binney collection of manuscript illustrations. The beloved San Diego fine dining oasis Mister A’s has long provided a colorful accompaniment to the dining experience with art from long-time resident artist Marie Najera, infusing the dining space with curated pieces that help set the tone. As the restaurant embarks on a new era, the iconic San Diego hub will be hosting an art exhibition, selling Marie's pieces that the restaurant has had the honor of enjoying over the years. Painting professionally for over 22 years, Marie's mixed media work is a culmination of the stories of her life, a visual diary overlaid with the influence of her current inspirations. Marie's art has contributed to the guest's dining experience over the last several years. Pieces will range from $350 to $2000 and range in sizes of 18in x 18in to 4ft x 3ft. This one-time event is free and open to the public, and accompanying the art exhibition will be a spread of pastries and champagne that pair perfectly with sweeping views of the San Diego skyline. The campaign will run throughout the month of May, in celebration of National Foster Care Month. Funds raised will benefit foster children by reuniting siblings living apart in foster care, supporting high school and college students in reaching their educational goals, providing birthday gifts, school clothes and opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities, and providing an emergency shelter where children feel safe and cared for. After a two-year delay, Local Roots Hard Kombucha opens its much-anticipated “Boochyard” tap room in North County, with a Spring Concert Series, every other Saturday from April 2 through May 14 from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m. The series kicks off with Universe Peoples on Saturday, April 2, continuing with Band of Gringos, Saturday, April 16, Groovesession, Saturday, April 30 and Boostive with Jamberries on Saturday, May 14. Also debuting this spring is Local Roots’ Can-for-a-Cause to benefit the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance. Launching April 1 with special can art by Arte. By. Caro (Carolina Arrieta) of Encinitas, proceeds between April and June will be donated to the Alliance, an international, nonprofit conservation organization.
