  • The Elizabeth Hospice invites individuals interested in helping adults and children facing the challenges associated with a life-limiting illness and those grieving the death of a loved one to a free volunteer orientation session via Zoom videoconferencing. Hospice volunteers are an important part of the care team at The Elizabeth Hospice and have an opportunity to make a real difference in someone’s life. Attendees will learn about a wide variety of virtual and in-person opportunities throughout San Diego County and Southwest Riverside County, including: serving as a patient companion, providing caregiver respite, performing aromatherapy, sewing Cuddle Bears, officiating at veteran pinning ceremonies, and much more. Information will be provided on both the application and training process. An email address and a device with a camera interface are needed to participate in the training session or attendees can join by phone.   • Colorful parols, Philippine star lanterns, will be on exhibit for all guests to have an up-close and personal view at the Mingei International Museum's La Atalaya Theater. The highlight of the Parol is the eight foot San Fernando Giant Parol gifted to PASACAT by Dennis P. Pineda, Governor of Pampanga, Philippines. PASACAT's collection of parols made from the delicate capiz shells and the traditional star lantern parols will be on display as well. During the exhibition, there will be parol making workshops. Enjoy cultural performances by PASACAT now celebrating their 51st Season along with tasting of Philippine holiday foods. They will be premiering Pastores Bool, a depiction of the tradition of dancers who sing praises as they going from home to home to welcome Christmas. PASACAT will also perform engaging dances representing some of regions of the 7,100 island nation.   • The San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy (SDRVC) will hold its annual River Valley Fest, the Conservancy’s major fundraising event, Nov. 7, 2021. Themed, “We’re Building Bridges,” the fest is a Hybrid (in-person and virtual live-stream) experience. The event will be at the Hilton San Diego/Del Mar. 15575 Jimmy Durante Blvd. River Valley Fest will celebrate the conservancy’s accomplishments and will feature live music by Hot Rocks San Diego, cocktails and appetizers, a silent auction, gourmet dinner, special programming, and exciting announcements.
