We’re thrilled to announce a new initiative this summer: Sonidos Del Barrio – a free, family-friendly, three-part concert series at Cesar Chavez Park celebrating music, wellness, and community connection. This vibrant event will feature live entertainment in the park, a DJ set at the end of the pier overlooking the bay, local art and vendors, wellness activities like yoga and sound bowl healing, and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere for families to enjoy together. Most importantly, we are working to make this event as accessible and inclusive as possible. Join us at the Mission Valley Library in San Diego on June 17 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for an eye-opening evening focused on ocean conservation. At 5:30 p.m., we’ll be screening a powerful documentary on the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, a massive accumulation of marine plastic pollution in the Pacific Ocean. The film examines the environmental and wildlife impacts of plastic waste, highlighting how it threatens ecosystems far from shore. Following the screening, stay for a dynamic panel discussion featuring experts from the Scripps Seabird Scientist, the Surfrider Foundation, the Save the Albatross Coalition, and Captain Charles Moore, the pioneering researcher who first discovered the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Develop your creativity this summer! Taking place at both ICA North in Encinitas and ICA Central in Balboa Park, our 2025 summer art camp for kids and teens is designed to promote mental health and inspire creativity. Young artists in San Diego County will explore art making with a variety of supplies, acquire new skills by expanding on their art making techniques, and continue to develop their critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities under the guidance of a teaching artist during each of our one-of-a-kind week of project-based camps.
