Soul Science Lab (SSL) is a music and multimedia duo powered by Chen Lo and Asante Amin. The two are storytellers who inspire the future with hip hop, jazz, soul and stunning visuals installations. The duo’s current projects include "Soundtrack ’63," "Make a Joyful Noize" (commissioned by Carnegie Hall), and "The Renaissance Mixtape" (commissioned by the Apollo Theater). SSL has released three studio albums: "Footprints," "The Visitor: Alter Destiny," and "Plan for Paradise." SSL has also developed a culturally responsive education platform for music creatives and educators at Soul Science University—just call them innovative Afro-futuristic griots.   • Join us in Encinitas for even more ways to interact with contemporary art! Weekly Wellness Saturdays at ICA San Diego / North expands on our 2025-2026 exhibition season theme, "On Healing." The exhibitions are part of a year-long exploration of the ways artists address the various socio-cultural wounds revealed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Similarly, the associated programs and events seek to explore how art can serve as a vital tool for mental, physical, emotional, and community wellbeing. Weekly Wellness Saturdays will take place most Saturdays throughout the year during ICA San Diego’s open hours (Noon – 5 p.m.), and includes: 1–2 p.m.: A rotating healing session hosted by a local facilitator 2:15–3:15 p.m.: A complimentary tour of the current exhibition in its Lower and Upper Pavilions, the outdoor garden, and Sculpture Trail 3:30–4:30 p.m.: A rotating healing session hosted by a local facilitator 12–5 p.m.: An all ages art-making activity related to this year’s "On Healing" season 12–5 p.m.: Complimentary admission to ICA / North’s exhibitions Admission to Weekly Wellness Saturdays at ICA / North is free, and a donation will be suggested for healing activities, and made directly to the facilitator.   • Traditional Holiday Oratorio Presented in San Diego Bach Collegium San Diego (BCSD), one of the country’s leading baroque ensembles, is presenting Handel’s great oratorio "Messiah" this holiday season in San Diego and the Pacific Palisades. The oratorio will spring to life by way of the fruitful collaboration of Charles Jennens’ carefully conceived libretto and Handel’s supreme skill as a composer of the theatre. BCSD’s performance of "Messiah," delivered by a dynamic cast in the manner of Handel’s dramatic operas, has become one of its crown jewels. Soloists Estelí Gomez, soprano Jay Carter, countertenor Jacob Perry, Michael Jones, tenors Jonathan Woody, bass Handel composed "Messiah" in a breathtakingly swift 24 days. "Messiah" was originally conceived as a work for Easter, and its premiere was during Lent at the Music Hall on Fishamble Street, Dublin on April 13, 1742. The performance was offered as a charity event for the relief of prisoners, support for Mercer's Hospital, and aid for the Charitable Infirmary. There is a long-standing myth that King George II was so touched by the “Hallelujah” chorus that he rose to his feet with the crowd following. It’s impossible to confirm the truth of this legend, since this was first recorded in 1780, almost 40 years later! Audiences today routinely stand during the “Hallelujah” chorus, as a tip of the hat to this legend. BCSD is beginning an annual tradition of performing Handel’s "Messiah" in San Diego so it can become a part of locals’ holiday tradition. Bach Collegium San Diego engages audiences with accessible, historically informed performances and educational programs featuring repertoire from the Renaissance, Baroque, and early Classical eras.
